An interesting list of subjects that should be mandatory in schools. While academics are essential, it's crucial to acknowledge that many elements in this diagram would have been beneficial to learn earlier. Over to you: what else should be on the list? What are the top 3 skills you wish schools would teach? Credit: Instagram accounts on startup_rules – Subscribe to our weekly newsletter to get a Free System Design PDF (158 pages): bit.ly/42Ex9oZ

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗜𝘀 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝗚𝗶𝘁 𝗙𝗹𝗼𝘄? Recently guys from JetBrains introduced 𝗦𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝗚𝗶𝘁 𝗙𝗹𝗼𝘄, a process to achieve better code quality and have the main branch green. It is a branching strategy similar to GitHub Flow, but with more concerns on safety when making changes to the main branch and making it scalable to larger teams. They use the 𝗺𝗮𝗶𝗻 branch for the production code only, and development is done in short-lived 𝗳𝗲𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 branches, which are then merged into the 𝗺𝗮𝗶𝗻 branch. Merge requests are used for code reviews and must be passed through quality gates before merging. They use Safe Merge from 𝗳𝗲𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 to 𝗺𝗮𝗶𝗻 (a temporary merge comment from both branches) for additional security. In the end, the 𝗿𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗲 branch is created from the 𝗺𝗮𝗶𝗻 branch. This branching model is very similar to ours because you don't need to track multiple versions of SaaS products. Check the entire text in the comments.
