Birds only sing when they feel safe, thus signaling on a deep, cellular level that you are safe too. Their frequencies calm the nervous system, lowering cortisol and anxiety. Birdsong is nature’s medicine.

Thomas Jefferson was America's first foodie and the White House was his test kitchen. Five years as minister to France gave him a taste for things most Americans had never seen. When he came home, he brought the recipes with him. He served ice cream at state dinners when guests had barely heard of it. The first known American recipe for it survives in his own handwriting. He imported a pasta machine from Italy and put macaroni and cheese on the table at an 1802 state dinner. He brought back French fried potatoes, cut and fried the Paris way, decades before America caught on. So next time you’re enjoying mac & cheese, French fries or ice cream...thank Thomas Jefferson

When a stray dog grabbed a stuffed animal in a shop and refused to put it down, the people inside chipped in to buy it for him as a Christmas gift. He left the store happier than ever 🥹

The Tartan Army’s on a charm offensive and their American hosts are loving it. But beyond beer & viral videos, there’s charity work. The Tartan Army is giving Hasbro Children’s Hospital the biggest single donation it’s ever received - money that will go towards treating cancer.

Who wants to bet "Erling" will be the next trending baby boy name here in the USA? Much respect, @ErlingHaaland.
Just before Norway's game against Iraq, Erling Haaland was waiting in the tunnel when a group of kids spotted him and completely lost it. What started with a few nervous looks quickly turned into hugs, smiles and memories they'll never forget. Haaland took the time to chat with them and make every single one feel special. People talk about his robot image all the time, but moments like this proves he might be human after all. ❤️🇳🇴

This big tough Rottweiler out here thinking he’s a straight-up rodeo bull! 🐂😂 He’s glued to the TV, head tilted, ears perked, ready to charge with the bulls like ‘That’s my people!’ Who needs a real ranch when you’ve got rodeo on the big screen? This boy’s living his best cowboy life. 🤠❤️

Bison are leading one of the most remarkable ecological comebacks in North American history. For more than a century, the great herds of the American bison were fragmented, broken into isolated groups by roads, fences, and human development across the Great Plains and Yellowstone region. Now, in a powerful wildlife success story, those artificial barriers are being overcome. On their own, bison are instinctively reuniting and reopening ancient migration corridors that had been lost for over 100 years. This isn’t just movement: it’s a profound return to ancestral memory. Large, unified herds are once again flowing across the landscape as they did in centuries past. As they travel, these iconic animals act as masterful ecosystem engineers. Their powerful hooves aerate compacted soil, their selective grazing encourages the growth of diverse native plants, and their dust wallows create seasonal watering holes that benefit countless other species. In doing so, they spread nutrients and help restore the health of the grasslands. By simply allowing bison to roam freely across their historic ranges, nature is showing us that wild ecosystems recover best when their original architects are given the freedom to lead. in 1978, a married couple in washington recorded a lo-fi folk lounge album in their living room together. they used instruments from a local junk shop. it was the only music they ever made, eventually divorcing and the album falling into obscurity for decades, forgotten.

Erling Haaland spent $134,000 on a book he'll never read. Then gave it away. Last December, he and his father quietly bought the 1594 edition of Snorri Sturluson's Kings' Sagas at auction — the most expensive book ever sold in Norwegian history. Only one copy exists on earth. They donated it to the public library in Bryne. The town where Haaland grew up. One condition: it stays open. Anyone can walk in and read it. What actually is this book? Written in 1230, it chronicles Norwegian kings from the age of gods through medieval history — warriors, farmers, kings from the exact coastal region Haaland calls home. The 1594 edition was the first time it was ever printed in Norwegian. Before that it lived in manuscripts, locked away from ordinary people for 350 years. He bought the moment his people's history became something they could hold — and handed it to the next generation. "I want the book always to lie open so people can read about those who came from where I come from." He scored twice for Norway today in his first ever World Cup match. The kings in that book would've approved.

Someone should really make a documentary about this World Cup and how it’s changed perceptions of what people were told America is vs what it actually is. I think it would be incredibly fascinating and wildly entertaining.
