The Snyder Bro mental breakdown is so aggressive that it has turned every single one of them into an amateur Film finance expert.
Overnight after Superman came out every single one of them started discussing inflation rates, print and advertising expenditures. Domestic and international spending. Tax rebates, and incentives , Tickets sold.
These fuckers will jump through any hoop and do any mental gymnastics and mathematics as much as possible to try to make DCU not look profitable.
Meanwhile, the franchise they liked ended eight years ago and we keep getting more and more DCU content. These people are a cancer on social media and on cinematic fandom. No studio should ever do anything to touch these people ever again.
Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait.
The SUPERGIRL box office framing is getting really weird.
Deadline says SUPERGIRL cost $175M net and has a $315M global break-even point “before global P&A spend.”
That last part is doing a lot of work.
Because when THE MANDALORIAN AND GROGU had a reported budget around $165M, we kept hearing it needed $500M–$600M worldwide to be in the black once marketing and everything else got factored in.
But now SUPERGIRL is somehow being framed around a much cleaner $315M number before global ad spend.
Come on.
I actually do not think marketing should always be dumped into these public break-even conversations the way people use it online. P&A is deductible, studios account for it differently, and the real math is always messier than “budget times 2.5.”
But be consistent.
If one movie needs to clear half a billion because marketing exists, then you cannot turn around and pretend another $175M superhero movie only needs $315M before marketing because that sounds better.
This feels like Deadline running cover.
SUPERGIRL might still be fine. It might leg out. It might find an audience. I genuinely hope it does.
But the box office narrative is already being softened before the movie even opens.
That usually tells you somebody (James Gunn) is nervous.
