Some years ago, @HavardHaarstad, @PshheeK and I cooked up an idea, landed funding for a PhD project, then hoped whoever we hired would take ownership of it. What better person to see this chapter through to fruition than @devyn_remme, who led it well. Lovely to see this in print!

Fantastic paper out by mates I feel privileged to work with (Shayan Shokrgozar, @devyn_remme @ryanjstock), provocatively and aptly entitled: “We Have to Convince Them Whatever it Takes:” The Climate Necropolitics of Energy Transitions in India and Zambia! sciencedirect.com/science/ar…

Good spot @lars_coenen, nice to see there's other keen readers like you writing for @CityLab like @DavidZipper - and top work led by @devyn_remme in this case so also very heartening to see @JPIClimate ROLES project outputs coming in handy for policy-relevant discussions! @UiBCET

But at least our cars are electric... :/
Today, 'climate champion' Norway approved *19 new oil fields*! The smiling faces here are oil and energy minister Terje Aasland (2nd from the right) and oil company representatives. Look how happy they are to ignore the IEA's and IPCC's recommendations for no new oil and gas!

This is a reflection of a central feature of modern propaganda: at a basic level, many people in politics and journalism just don’t instinctively see the criminal law as a place where we deal with the harms caused by the powerful.

norway watered down the language on cutting emissions, while saudi arabia, china, new zealand and the netherlands blocked efforts to specify that sucking loads of carbon out of the atmosphere is unproven and risky 5/

I'm updating my course on climate adaptation, next year - 4 degrees for my grandchildren is the new normal
This image from today's IPCC synthesis report is brutal. The existing policy trajectory represents a profound failure of our governments, and of our international political system. We need much more aggressive mitigation and much stronger international cooperation.
