The most urgent lesson from my book and my several years of studying propaganda is this: it's imperative that you get every well-meaning person you care about in your life to stop consuming mainstream news. There is a relentless war to shape people's brains so that they are okay with a world of enormous but preventable suffering and resigned to a world with nowhere near as much flourishing as human beings deserve.
NBC News has been bringing on a consultant for both Susan Collins and the Israeli ministry of foreign to attack Graham Platner. You can’t make this stuff up.

Here's some of what I wrote in the final chapter, Resisting Copaganda:

THREAD. The recent behavior of the District Attorney in San Francisco is shameful. Her new fear-mongering campaign is based on lies, and it's fomenting violence. But the background of how the New York Times SF Bureau Chief assisted in the fraud is a key lesson in propaganda.

Again a few weeks ago in the NY Post and LA Times and last night with a "town hall" meeting, Jenkins is doubling down on her Trumpian misinformation campaign. This should be a moment of genuine reflection for well-meaning people in SF. And it's an *amazing* case study for media literacy. Ask yourself: why was it important before she came into office to portray her as "progressive"? Why did the now-NYT Bureau Chief insert that word "progressive" gratuitously into her headline about Jenkins? What steps can you take in your life to guard against being subject to that kind of manipulation?

These are all questions that I work through in Copaganda (all royalties donated to an amazing group in California that works with unhoused people targeted by police.) It's absolutely vital that well-meaning people who think of themselves as "progressive" become more intelligent consumers of news and more sensitive to the enormous dangers in this authoritarian moment of expanding the government's capacity to detain presumed innocent people without trial by a jury of their peers.

RT @Alonso_GD: Surprising no one: Israel lied. The car was not “accerating towards the soldiers”, it was fully stopped. The “single shots”…

I cannot get this New York Times headline from yesterday out of my head. One important form of propaganda is subtly lying about who is the attacking aggressor and who is framed as merely “responding.”

The group framed as merely "responding" to "attacks" has committed thousands of violations of the ceasefire in Lebanon, unleashed grotesque settler violence, and committed daily violations of the ceasefire in Gaza, all while perpetrating a genocide. x.com/DropSiteNews/status/20…

🇱🇧🇮🇷 Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam announced that Israel carried out 3,491 airstrikes on Lebanon during the nominal, U.S.-brokered ceasefire from April 17 to June 7. His office also said Israel carried out 407 controlled demolitions and 6 "razing" operations, which the Prime Minister's office said have entirely flattened several villages in southern Lebanon. When explicitly asked by Sky News whether the United States would back Israel if Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reopens the war with Iran, Trump stated, "I don't think it'll happen. It's all working out very well. Iran is doing what they have to do; I don't think that's going to happen, ok?" When the Sky News reporter pressed further, asking what exactly he would do if Netanyahu went against his explicit wishes and attacked anyway, Trump reportedly hung up the phone. Credit: Sky News

We must not normalize what is happening. This level of open racism and jingoism has profound effects on American and global society. And remember: the various affronts to human dignity we are seeing could not stand if prominent players and teams acted in solidarity.

🎥🇵🇸 7 Palestinians, including a woman, were killed, and at least 15 wounded, after an Israeli strike targeted a tent sheltering displaced families near the Passport Office area, west of Gaza City, according to multiple local reports. Journalist Nahed Hajjaj says most of the wounded arriving at Friends of the Patient Hospital are children, with footage showing medics treating several young victims side by side. 📹: @nahed_hajjaj99

🏀 The New York Knicks went up 2-0 in the NBA Finals with a victory Friday night, putting them just two wins away from their first NBA title in 53 years. The team is playing with the UAE government-backed “Experience Abu Dhabi” logo stitched onto its jerseys under a sponsorship deal worth around $30 million per year. Rep. Jim McGovern (MA) says, “Fans should know that the sport they are enjoying is fueling crimes against humanity. They should know that the NBA is investing in the UAE, and the UAE is investing in atrocities in Sudan.” The Knicks are the NBA’s only individual franchise with a direct sponsorship arrangement of this kind with the UAE. The broader NBA-UAE partnership is estimated to generate roughly $500 million in advertising revenue. 🎥 Video: @RefugeesIntl
For the next two weeks, the @nyknicks and @spurs will decorate our screens. And so will the @emirates logo. Behind this NBA-Emirates deal is a disturbing fact: the UAE is funding genocide in Sudan. Tell the @NBA: End the deal with the Emirates. bloodontheball.org

HEADS UP! While attention focuses (understandably) on the House effort to legislate new US-Israel military relations via the FY27 NDAA, the Senate is quietly doing something similar via the FY27 Intell Authorization bill. Buckle up — it's a big deal. 🧵 1/

⭕️ NYT Called Every Major Gaza City a “Hamas Stronghold,” New Book Documents A new book by media critic Adam Johnson, How to Sell a Genocide: The Media’s Complicity in the Destruction of Gaza, documents how the New York Times used the term “Hamas stronghold” 154 times between October 2023 and October 2024, almost always while reporting on war crimes or pending war crimes. Johnson shows the paper applied the label to all five of Gaza’s most populated cities, including refugee camps like Jabaliya, where an Israeli strike killed upwards of 120 people in an October 2023 attack. The NYT headline read: “Israel Strike Targets Hamas Stronghold in Dense Gaza Area.” The book argues the framing militarized civilian areas in the public imagination to justify their destruction.
Reading How To Sell A Genocide, the NYT called every major population centre in the Gaza Strip a "Hamas stronghold" at some point. They actively worked to militarise civilians in Gaza to justify genocide

It should disturb you to no end that the US government is doing extrajudicial murder of random people on the ocean. No trial, no evidence, no due process. And now nobody even bothers to talk about it. The number of people killed may be over 200 now.
On May 29, at the direction of #SOUTHCOM commander Gen. Francis L. Donovan, Joint Task Force Southern Spear conducted a lethal kinetic strike on a vessel operated by Designated Terrorist Organizations. Intelligence confirmed the vessel was transiting along known narco-trafficking routes in the Eastern Pacific and was engaged in narco-trafficking operations. Three male narco-terrorists were killed during this action. No U.S. military forces were harmed. SOUTHCOM is unwavering in its commitment to applying total systemic friction on the cartels. @DeptofWar #OpSouthernSpear

fun fact: the NYT hasn't had a breaking news headline about a bombing in Gaza (~1000 killed by US/Israel since Oct 2025) or Lebanon (3,400 killed by US/Israel since Oct 2025) since Oct 2025.
