I was the best man at the wedding for a guy who did exactly this.
They have 3 kids now.
How they met is actually a lot funnier though. He was being racist online and she DM'd him and they started talking and found out they only lived about 5 miles from each other.
He asked her if she wanted to meet up for lunch sometime, but the kicker is he didn't realize she was a girl until they both got there.
The rest is, as they say, history.
