I'm just going to keep posting this all day dizzythinks.substack.com/p/t… but whether any Lobby hack can be bothered to read _and_ understand it let alone politicians is unknown.

Necessity is the plea for every infringement of human freedom. It is the argument of tyrants; it is the creed of slaves - Pitt the Younger

Sir Keir, we've lost Save the Children.
This announcement reflects legitimate concerns about children's safety online, but a ban of this scale would change how children access and experience the digital world. The UK Government must ensure that any decisions are informed by children themselves and by independent experts. We are concerned that a blanket ban may look protective on paper, but instead pushes children into less regulated spaces, where they are less likely to seek help when something goes wrong. Children growing up in poverty are likely to be among those most affected. If ministers want to make the online world safer, the answer is not simply keeping children off platforms. The focus must be on providing better support for parents by making platforms safer by design, tackling addictive and high-risk features such as stranger contact, live streaming, nudification tools and unsafe AI systems, so that children are not exposed to harm online.

Here's what I want to know, why are there so few journalists challenging that the implementation detail of this ban as it currently stands is Digital ID for all adults? Are they just compliant hacks or just gibbering idiots?

I think this argument for you to come off X if you can't discern obvious sarcasm from an intelligent young girl.
Even more reason to block it !!! A child being on their phone for 9 hours and she can’t think of anything else to do but stare at a wall. No wonder obesity is on the rise in children.

Profiles on YouTube Kids are: * Preschool (Ages 4 & Under) * Younger (Ages 5–8) * Older (Ages 9–12) So we're banning YouTube in favour of YouTube Kids for the 13-15 cohort that have no content. You can see this has been well thought through.

Still trying to work out how you explain to an autistic 10yr old obsessed with watching Masked Singer clips on YouTube that she's going to be banned from doing it on a phone that has no SIM and zero access to any other social media and has Family Link controls.

Let's be clear, the proposals as they stand are about making every adult tell the Government what they look at online. It's not about children, they are just the cover for a much more sinister form of social authoritarianism. Social credit score next. Black Mirror time

Our response to the Prime Minister's announcement ⤵️
We are banning social media access for under 16s. These days kids must find their feet in a world where technology intrudes into every area of their life. I just can’t let that go on anymore. So we’re giving children their childhoods back.
Community note
The UK Government's 'careful review' of the research found a small correlation between children's use of social media and wellbeing, but no evidence of a causal effect: gov.uk/government/pub… assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/media/696e0b46…

It's quite something to see Sky News report on their own live stream being banned for under-16s, and having curfews for 16-17 yr olds.

Hunger Games series, which is a 12A has been banned for under-16s but only if they watch it on YouTube. Make it make sense.

Wholly unscientific straw poll from Year 10 via WhatsApp. "Wankers" "Never voting for them" "Time to find an obscure app" "I installed Tor over the weekend"

Terrible news today that Digital ID for all adults has been announced by the Government. Would Stalin or the Stazi liked this? Yes.

Huge congratulations to all those who campaigned for action on social media to protect children - both outside and inside Parliament. This wouldn’t have happened without you.
