The problem with this line of thinking is that 18-year-olds have no idea what theyāre doing. Debt is purely an abstraction to them. And every adult they trust to advise them is saying āabsolutely get the degree. Fall down a bottomless pit of debt if you have to.ā
She voluntarily incurred a huge and unwarranted debt to a creditor. I'm sure she regrets her decision.
One hopes that in the days to come her masters degree in business will allow her to make substantially more than $15/hour. If so, she may stop regretting her decision.
There is no slavery in any of that.
