The rest of the suspects were let go by the Finnish police and slapped a “travel ban” pending trial. The Fitburg cargo ship was seized on 31 December 2025, flying the flag of the Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, while en route from Russia to Israel. The ship's 14 crew members were from Russia, 🇬🇪Georgia, 🇦🇿Azerbaijan and 🇰🇿Kazakhstan. The ship’s anchor was dragged above the seabed, damaging communication cables linking Helsinki and Tallinn.  The ship itself was released by the Finish authorities almost immediately in January 2026. Active Russian hybrid warfare has been ongoing in the Baltic Sea for more than a decade. More than 10 major incidents have been recorded with Russia-linked ships only in the last 3 years, causing damage to undersea electric and communication cables. The cost of repairing damage of one single incident is estimated at some €50-70 million. To date, no single confiscation or penalty of imprisonment has been ordered over the activities. Are the Finish and other European legal systems showing enough teeth to deal with the problem: A) Yes, B) No?

Every time I witness the work of Charles Durning I get choked up knowing his life story and what he went through during WWII. His emotional descriptions are so raw and powerful. He was always known as a "character actor". But nobody realized until he eventually spoke about his service to our country, just how much "character" the man truly possessed. Rest In Peace Charles.
