New blog: The rise and fall of Fable Wherein I discuss the latest drama around frontier LLMs, the role of Chinese models, introduce a new subagent extension for Pi, and use it to build falling-blocks game in Zig from one prompt. danielnouri.org/notes/2026/0…

.@Fortnite really pulled a feat with the new season. Those sprites seem to appeal to the Steal the Brainrot “collect them all” mind so much that people I’m playing BR with no longer care about their health, weapons, nor winning. It’s all about the golden peanut sprite now. 🤦‍♂️

I disagree with this decision and I don't like it. But also... HOW DID ANTHROPIC NOT SEE THIS COMING‽ It is *the* obvious response to "this is too dangerous for anyone except us to use", since that relies on a premise ("we are uniquely good") that almost no-one agrees with.
The US government, citing national security authorities, has issued an export control directive to suspend all access to Fable 5 and Mythos 5 by any foreign national, whether inside or outside the United States, including foreign national Anthropic employees. The net effect of this order is that we must abruptly disable Fable 5 and Mythos 5 for all our customers to ensure compliance. Access to all other Claude models is not affected. We apologize for this disruption to our customers. We believe this is a misunderstanding and are working to restore access as soon as possible. Read our full statement: anthropic.com/news/fable-myt…

I find myself telling coding agents on different machines to take a log about the work the are doing, and to use different skill files for certain processes. It's time to start using Redis arrays with ARGREP I guess, to have all centralized. I'll share a skill file and a video.

I finally found *the* solution I wanted to the old/new editing problem. And it is a solution that at the same time works extremely well, is quite elegant I believe, and can't be implemented if you don't build something like DwarfStar. Thread (but check [upto] in the screenshot).

More than 150 people, including 120 children, were killed in Iran when an airstrike hit a school in Minab. Although a preliminary US military investigation determined Washington was responsible, the Trump administration is yet to formally accept responsibility. Sky's @DominicWaghorn is the first international journalist to visit Minab. Warning: contains distressing content.
Community note
Sky News was not the first international news team to report from the Minab school site; The Grayzone's Wyatt Reed visited and filmed on location weeks earlier. x.com/TheGrayzoneNew… x.com/wyattreed13/st…

Shamefully, the Trump administration has been forcing countries to expel Cuban doctors, leaving the poorest without healthcare. The governments of Jamaica, Guatemala, Guyana, Honduras, St Vincent and the Grenadines, the Bahamas, Antigua and Barbuda, and Paraguay have ended the medical agreements. .theguardian.com/world/2026/a…

In the tradition of making Emacs extensions really awkward to use, in the pi-coding-agent Emacs mode, this is available as the following hard-to-remember key combinations: - `p` for jumping to the previous user message - `n` for jumping to the next user message - (and `f` for forking message at point) github.com/dnouri/pi-coding-…
Replying to @lucasmeijer
This is fixed (by 💕@badlogicgames) in latest Pi! use cmd-shift-up in mac ghostty to auto-scroll-up through assistant text messages and user messages.

Absurd and inhuman violence is spreading ferociously through the sacred places of the Christian East, profaned by the blasphemy of war and the brutality of business, with no regard for people’s lives, which are considered at most collateral damage of self-interest. But no gain can be worth the life of the weakest, children, or families. No cause can justify the shedding of innocent blood.
