Following the example of Apple, Google, and AWS, in version 1.2.24, @docassemble will change its license from the MIT License to the MIT-SAFE Licence, which is the same as the MIT License except it requires users to adopt and effectively enforce policies to protect public safety.

Likewise, software developers need to uphold the rule of law by using our power to enforce rules of behavior that we write ourselves, that change from day to day, and that cannot be invalidated by a judge applying the First Amendment.

Although compliance with MIT-SAFE requires extra work, remember that the free software movement has always been about freedom -- namely, someone else imposing their will on you so that you become an instrument of their efforts to re-engineer society according to their design.
