Another small nitpick-The animation direction isnt even consistent with how the Grunts hold themselves in-game? Like, dude. I can see the Mocap suit. Why you standing like a Human with Hulk Gloves on his hands?
A cinematic artist in the gaming industry gave harsh critiques of this Halo Campaign Evolved cinematic on LinkedIn: “It's hard to believe that this Cinematic for one of gaming's most iconic levels is what Halo Studios is shipping, but it appears to be. From the original 18-second cinematic, which had: -A great establishing shot, showing the scale of the area, reinforcing the rings grand architecture -Sleeping grunts, foreshadowing upcoming ambush gameplay (you're making a game, remember?) -A quick gag of the grunts running scared We now have a bloated 30-second cinematic of: -A more constrained establishing shot. -Doorway framing, a cinematic language of its own not appropriate for a scene like this -Grunts awkwardly... arguing? Standing around? Flailing their arms? What are they even doing? Why are we watching them do this for so long? -A stupid compression-effect shot on the grunt, so clearly made by someone just ITCHING to make a shot like this -Inappropriate for Halo, an enemy, and for a character who you cant even see the face of. -The cherry on top is the fully disconnected lighting between the cinematic and the gameplay space as the cinematic ends Stuff like this needs to be rightly criticized, and all the more for remakes, which should have none of the confusion and cross-department bickering as new games might. You're remaking a game. You know the space. You know the story. You should know the intent.”

Accepting “good enough” for personal portfolio work is kinda lame. Good enough mindset is for clientele and when you’re working on a deadline but half-assing a personal piece that’s meant to milestone your skill makes you very replaceable and buried under artstation sludge
You could dedicate every hour of your waking life to 3D art and spend the rest of your working life squinting at photorealistic gun attachments with perfect topology. I present an alternative: half-ass it, make what you need, learn as you go, and be Just Okay at it. That's fine.

Honestly probably part of the reason why I love FRIEND so much because having something just lurking in the game with no real rhyme or reason and just appearing sporadically.. very cool concept to me

This game's lighting engine was so rudimentary that it was like pure darkness. Seeing this thing's single eye stare at you from the darkness jumping around like some fucked up grasshopper made me scared to play the game as a kid. I hear NOBODY talk abt this online

One thing i do appreciate about halo ce was the ultra shinny and saturated textures reserved for enemies and vehicles contrasting with the more subdued textures of the level geometry. People don’t praise halo ce’s readability enough.

Genuinely baffling to me that devs are just making games like theyre fucking subway sandwiches and not like theyre creatives with talent or artistic passion
We live in this weird age of Halo where you can customize your gameplay in anyway you want but people still complain. Don’t want sprint? Turn it off Want a 60 round AR? Do it! Want third person? Go ahead! Don’t like the HUD? Change it! Don’t want a remake? Go play MCC!!! #Halo
