Common horsetail (Equisetum arvense) has roots that go as deep as two meters! It's mpossible to weed. But it has multiple uses.
Rich in minerals, it can be dried and eaten as a supplement.
It's coarse so very useful as mulch.
Contains saponins (soap) so can be used as a scrub.

New mum Anya has dug to the bottom of her bed box, and sleeps there, nursing her babies.
On the bare plastic, with all the lovely special moisture-wicking vet bed and soft fleece blankets piled on top of them.๐คฆโโ๏ธ
Anya gave birth on the 10th June and she is still hands off, bonding with her precious new babies, but this is the view from underneath, looking up into the bottom of the box.
And yes I'm busting to get in there to clean and sort it all out for her, but it's very important that she is left in peace, while her babies are so young.
But just look at those darling little hands!๐
I think I can see 4, possibly 5 babies.

We reseeded this area with a clover mix a year or two ago. Bees all over it today and it smells as sweet as any rose.

VERY exciting new record for the garden this week!
This is the Red-belted Clearwing (Synanthedon myopaeformis); an extremely cool and strange-looking moth whose caterpillars live beneath the bark of fruit trees.
It was once believed to be nationally scarce, but it turns out we just werenโt very good at finding them (the trick is pheromone lures).
