Color Holograms with 64x increased Etendue! We have a new holography paper in @NaturePortfolio with my student at Princeton @_EthanTseng_ leading the effort together @SeungHwanBaek8 and the folks at Meta Research. We expand (that is, increasing the field of view and/or eyebox of holographic near-eye displays to useable ranges) by putting an engineered diffuser in the path of the display. We optimized the phase pattern of a diffractive optical element (shown in the photo below) to allow for even larger expansion factors while retaining similar contrast in the resulting hologram.
