Final round for SRP! While we know the top six, the exact lineup for the qualifying finals is still unknown. I’ve written a tool that lets you simulate and visualise the ladder permutations. Click for details (and link to the browser-based tool). open.substack.com/pub/dimitr…

Just arrived in Sydney for the ADSN conference (@AustralianData). If you’re here too, let’s catch up during the breaks. Our Centre is represented on all 3 days. Today, you’ll hear from our members during the “fast-forward” presentations and the poster session.

I have updated my simulation tool to include the two results from the weekend. Great win for the Wallabies, but consistency will be key to get a top-6 seeding for the World Cup draw. It is still far from certain: open.substack.com/pub/dimitr…

It was a pleasure to talk to Paul Cully a few days ago about my analysis of the Super Rugby Pacific season. His article is now up on the Sydney Morning Herald website: smh.com.au/sport/the-numbers…

Everyone is excited about the Super Rugby Pacific season, but why has it been so good? I have crunched some numbers to find out, and you can read about it on RugbyPass here: rugbypass.com/news/the-raw-d…

Giving a talk this afternoon on what advances in AI mean for healthcare, for the Annual Scientific Meeting of @AOA_ortho. The theme for the plenary session is “making data the solution”. My take is “don’t make it the problem”; start from clinical needs rather than the technology.

Interesting quantitative data on the use of LLMs in publishing being presented by @james_y_zou at #ISMB2024. It looks like 16–17% of text in both the manuscripts AND the peer reviews are written by LLMs!
