ALT Children entering care often face multiple traumas and losses, with the transition itself being distressing. Of the nearly 84,000 children in care in England, over 10,000 live in one of 3,119 children’s homes—many in Northwest England—making them among the most vulnerable. Trauma-informed care recognises the impact of trauma and prioritises emotional and physical safety, aiming to rebuild trust and support positive futures. Without safe relationships, these children face increased risks of exploitation and poor health. However, there are no agreed standards for trauma-informed care in children’s homes. This project will co-design and pilot a trauma-informed intervention toolkit across six homes in the Northwest, offering guidance on staff training, supervision, care practices, and governance. The toolkit aims to embed trauma-informed thinking throughout operations, improving outcomes for young people, staff, and providers.
