🇬🇧Common glow-worm, Lampyris noctiluca. When the larva moved, I discovered a kind of „adhesive foot“ on the back part of the abdomen. This can be extended as needed. This allows the larva to push itself forwards when moving.

🇬🇧Common glow-worm, Lampyris noctiluca. Here you can see the larva of this firefly. It can also glow on the abdomen. The female looks very similar to this larval form and has no wings. The males, on the other hand, are more similar to the typical beetle. Date found: Oct. 5, 2024 🇩🇪Großer Leuchtkäfer, Lampyris noctiluca. Funddatum: 5. Okt. 2024 #firefly #coleoptera #insects #glühwürmchen

Museum collections are invaluable for many reasons. But if nobody knows they exist, their utility is diminished. This is why digitizing is essential. We would love to hear what biodiversity collections mean to you! Tell us by filling out this form: docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1F…

A lot of data is still missing but I am working on it. This was all done by one person outside of work.
