The NHS is remarkable: we have low lifetime health costs, and a high life expectancy. And free at the point of use and universal.

And some scary awful shortcomings. I am frightened of needing Emergency Care. We all should be because private healthcare (if you can afford it) doesn't cover this. Not fixing it is a choice. And old style General Practice was a luxury I miss now it has gone.

Why do we make all communal and important spending decisions like this as though there is no money, yet holiday abroad and drive fancy cars?

UK tax is low compared to peer nations
It includes the super-wealthy who can & should pay more
The reality is if we want better healthcare, roads, transportation, infrastructure it needs to be paid for by us all to some extent

But the tax paid by the average UK worker has not
This apparent miracle was achieved by taxing āother peopleā: higher earners, capital, property, banks, etc

From the anesthesia patient safety foundation:
The risk of dying from anesthesia is now very lowā¦. Risk is less than 1 in a million for healthy patients having routine procedures but increases in sicker patients having more complicated operations.
Anesthesia is 6 sigma safe.
