Today I puzzled briefly over an unusual Ishɛ language word from a historical text an elder recorded: ugrupke. Unusual because we never have g followed by r. It clearly has the definite suffix appropriate for nouns ending -p, and a slight giveaway was the noun class prefix u-

Yes. Odd. That continuation tweet seems to have vanished. ugrupke was just "the group"

Just heard that funding for Keyman the global keyboarding solution dried up: see the keyman.com/funding-appeal/ And that's just as I check and see 14,600 people seem to have downloaded my pan-Nigerian keyboard keyman.com/keyboards/naijaty… so far.

Walking the tightrope: bbc.com/audio/play/w3ct71gk Fascinating to hear more of Steve Rosenberg's story of his interest in and respect for Russia through the years and keeping going trying to be honest and respectful in a very uncertain environment. With his lovely piano music too.

Does anyone know a past tense for shine? Asking for a journalist.

Very exciting. From the earliest days Christians have translated the message not usually to sound impressive, or to preserve languages, but to help people use their normal language skills to take God seriously.
We are excited to announce a 3-part, documentary-style series on William Tyndale's life and legacy, starting next Thursday! It opens with the journey from Jerome’s Vulgate to Tyndale’s translation.

How do we choose who to listen to and allow to influence us? If they sign a Doctrinal Basis? That may have a role, if they are thoroughly honest, but perhaps looking at the fruit, the well assessed outcomes of their service and ministry is wiser, but takes time to see.
Jesus said, “Beware of the false prophets who come to you in sheep’s clothing but inwardly are ravenous wolves” (Mt. 7:15). They look like the sheep category and behave like the wolf category. Their accurate or orthodox words ARE the sheep’s clothing.

Perhaps then the question comes back to us ordinary followers of Christ, to ask whether we really value the right fruit? Would we recognise true Godliness? How many of God's faithful servants would we rate highly? Jeremiah stuck in the mud? Paul eclipsed by 'super apostles'?

This morning marching band nearish was rehearsing Auld Lang Syne, Low in the grave he lay and other items. I guess Burns Night is coming up... And Easter. You can barely hear it in the video.

Just in case anyone was thinking that this tweet indicated Morrisons dealt with it, they didn’t. They asked for details then ignored us. 24th was the deadline before the fine went up - we couldn’t afford the risk of challenging, so on Christmas Eve we paid £170. Thanks @Morrisons

Very helpful article. It's worth considering “Would I know the signs to watch out for if a person or group I know and love is in danger of spiritual abuse?” and “What dangerous behaviour or talk should I be wary of?”

Lots of preparations around Jos for Christmas, with lots of bright roundabouts. Something spectacular seems to be under way at Secretariat bridge. And quietly tucked away there's a cheerfully repainted peacock adorning a much more modest roundabout.

Few seem to have observed yet that there is actually something fitting about Christians carrying a cross in Jerusalem being spat at, cursed and harrassed. The residents of Jerusalem did that to someone else carrying a cross once... and manipulated Western forces to kill him.
BREAKING: Israel’s largest newspaper, Israel Hayom, reports that Christian tourists in Jerusalem have been spat on, cursed at, and sprayed with water simply for wearing a cross while walking in the streets of Jerusalem.
