Happy New Year! 🥂 Starting Year 5 at Amazon Ads. Proud of what my teams have shipped to help customers: creative tools for Fire TV self-service performance advertisers, PG deals and O&O deals-based buying in Amazon DSP, and Commitments Hub. Excited for what’s next in 2026!

In case you missed it, here are the details on Commitments Hub that we launched last fall: advertising.amazon.com/resou… If you're an advertiser managing spending agreements with publishers, I'd love to connect.

I led the team that launched PG buying at Amazon DSP - and it sounds like our fee is pretty popular! There's much more to come from Amazon DSP, so stay tuned...

Amazon PG deals are 1.0%, no hidden data fees AND 0% on their O&O. Independent DSPs simply cannot compete on pricing.

My insurance broker told me he doesn't write new policies anymore, he just deals with cancellations. The market is broken. My roofer told me they get calls like this weekly. If you read up on this, the homeowners insurance market in California is fundamentally broken.

Ultimately I got my insurance restored by: 1. Hosing off my roof. 2. Hiring the roofer to do an inspection and writing a report that said my *metal* roof was fine. 3. Asking my broker to file and appeal using the report and photos. I consider myself to be lucky.

Also a bit surprising that Ram and Dodge were at the top and bottom of the ICE list since they’re the same company.

The reason I started regularly looking into this was because of the 2016 election: my city had a ballot measure to raise the sales tax so that we wouldn't have the worst roads in the County (measured by PCI). It was super contentious. Someone stole my lawn sign supporting it!

You can find the PCI for your Bay Area city in this document: mtc.ca.gov/sites/default/fil… You don't want to be in the 0-59 buckets.

It’d be even better if the law mandated including the sales tax and a 20% tip into the price, but I understand we can’t become Asia overnight

I don't recall OBL being a household name in May 2000, even after the 1993 WTC bombing. But that would certainly change the next year. Full speech: irp.fas.org/cia/product/tene…

Some people got their fare checked twice on Caltrain on one ride. (Which is especially annoying for Apple Pay @BayAreaClipper which strangely requires authentication for handheld verification readers, but not at stationary ones.)

I remember on the LIRR, fares were checked on nearly 95% of the rides I took outbound or inbound.

IIRC, traffic was a mess because of Dreamforce. There were no other riders. I think I fell asleep in the car. I wondered how this would all work out financially.

Update: My expense was approved, with one modification: the tip on Lyft was not approved. OK, fine. Now, I'm awaiting payment. grh.vta.org/

Update: Calling around, someone else at CVS was nice enough to actually dig into this and discover that the nearest CVS that *might* have this medication is in Oakland I called around various Walgreens and found one nearby that had enough. The internet should've solved this.
