3 Truths about Racial Discipline Disparities: 1) Biggest cause is racism in how educators/schools respond to subjective behaviors, 2) Most common "solutions" = "fixing" student behaviors, which ignores the biggest cause, 3) This is a racist response to a racist condition.

Check out this amazing resource. Thank you @Jason_To
Please check out this humble Google Site that I and other volunteer educators just launched to host Ontario Ministry of Education resources for those who cannot access the Virtual Learning Environment: onted.ca What else do you want this site to do? 🤔

Be generous and specific with your praise! Notice partially correctly responses and name what they did well.
A child needs positive emotions in order to explore more challenging emotions and emotional situations. A child’s positive emotions “fill the tank” with energy to manage ups and downs.

1. I’m pleased to read that while @tvo is provincially funded, they still have the courage to critique the gov’t. 2. Imagine believing that teaching critical thinking isn’t a mathematics thing.
Great article from @tvo about what an Anti-racist math class looks like. Also a reminder about how to challenge a ministry system that removes anti-racist front matter from curriculum documents tvo.org/article/what-does-an…

I learned that the MOE once gave funding for literacy intervention. They stopped & it became difficult to find room in the budget for it. I love RR & know it works. Now would be the time to bring it back, especially considering this cohort of grade 1s only know covid schooling.

We cannot let up on ensuring math learning experiences come September are rooted in anti-oppression & allow students to dig deeper into social issues, even as the gov’t actively works to erase this. 🙏🏽 @PoBCAdvocate @Alisongsv @BryanPrettyLeaf @drbevcaz @PaiMath @ashleyokwuosa
How can math be racist? @ashleyokwuosa talks to experts who explain how math has sometimes been used in racist ways, and what an anti-racist math class would look like. tvo.org/article/what-does-an… #onted #onpoli

13/ Ms. Hodge was right. If you never lose it in your own mind? There will never be a need to bring sexy back. Nope. Sure. I can cut a few carbs and run a few extra miles. But mostly I need to remember where my sexy lives. *taps temple* 'Nuff said. 😎 #humanismalways

Clay said, “The teacher should always be ready to be surprised by any child.” She also stated repeatedly that you cannot have low expectations for any student.
As a result of being labeled as "low," "struggling," etc. many Ss "remain as such. This is not due to their abilities...but to the limited opportunities to experience and appreciate the benefits & power that literacy brings." ~Cambourne & Crouch

1. Why I try to get my books from @chaptersindigo instead of amzn. 2. I love how the whole community is rallied around the cause of growing readers. Literacy is a life skill.

Team effort! Excited how these types of tools could soon be the norm within all school boards. Imagine the changes in terms of how we see and understand our students learning and growth.

Yes!!! I am so thankful for all your help in teaching me how to set up good data collection tools and looking forward to our next project! #oisepqpyr
100% I'm really excited about what the role additional digital tools can play in helping to simplify and broaden our data collection and organization efforts to better see our students @dunnimdone

Have you ever said to a child, “Tell me about yourself as a reader.” I think it would be a fascinating peek at their metacognition.

In case you’re struggling on how to describe some of the strengths your neurodiverse friend has… 😁

There is a child that no teacher will struggle to generate a list of strengths. Remember to discover the strengths of the other students under your care.

Ah nothing like a nice multiple-choice math question to not see how students think…

There is more than one way of knowing and listening to other’s voices is a great way to start.

Things have changed in education. The pandemic has forced us to be creative with how we reach our students and how we reach our families. We must continue to think creatively and engage our community in ways that are meaningful to them. #oisepqpyr

Be careful with your words!!!
Be careful with your words. These are not “covid kids” and this is not the “pandemic generation”. Don’t let the trauma of global pandemic trick our children into believing it’s the only thing about them that matters. #FridayThoughts #FridayFeeling #edchat #BreakingBold
