Thoughts on Idalia as someone who is from the Panhandle: Some counties on the coast of the Big Bend are small, like super small, and poorer than the rest of the state. Franklin has a population of about 12.5k and 19% live below the poverty line. In Jefferson, 17%. Taylor, 18%.

Thank you, @DrSmall_FSU. The Summer Institute was a great opportunity to spend time with all of our @fsu_elps EdD students, learn about their journeys and their interests, and think deeply about problems and possibilities in educational practice and policy.

Dr. Walt Ecton, assistant professor in the Educational Leadership & Policy Studies program, was interviewed by the Florida Chamber of Commerce (@FlChamber) to talk about career and technical education. Give it a listen here: buzzsprout.com/1965481/12869…

This is a great thread from @Dcollier74 on what we mean and who we are talking about when we say "college isn't for everyone", about the policy, politics, and class assumptions undergirding that discourse.

An excellent analysis of the continued (and largely unopposed) encroachment of private tech into public ed and how Amazon, in particular, has situated itself as "a key cloud landlord for the education sector":

Another one of our @fsu_elps EdD students doing great things!
Shereada Harrell at the Career Center (@fsucareercenter) was named president-elect of the Southern Association of Colleges and Employers. She will be directly involved in the Association Strategic Planning Committee and By-Laws management. Congratulations on the achievement!

Love this. Provides a logic for the deadline itself, but allows flexibility around the deadline with students needing to articulate why that flexibility is needed for their own learning and/or success.

Good stuff from @cant_b. As usual, our ire should be directed at elite private institutions (and for-profits): "These places are trafficking in desperation and desire. They are laundering LowerEd through Gothic spires"

Another takeaway from @cant_b : the systemic underfunding of HBCUs (and, to an extent, other regional publics) creates an incentive structure that encourages more debt accumulation and short-term revenue seeking.
