This is patently ridiculous.
People use Vancouver community centres all the time.
They are packed.
They are especially important for people who donโt have a lot of money.
You may not appreciate things that bring community together, but hundreds of thousands of us who live in our city disagree with you.
I didnโt even know there was a Vancouver aquatic center. All of these community centres while theyโre good in thought the majority of us donโt even know where they are. Let alone use them. These funds and keeping them running I think could be used for something better.
Iโm not against the centers. But I personally donโt know anyone who uses them and most of the time if I do happen to stumble into one for a specific usually with a group of people for something else theyโre always empty.
There are better use of funds than using centres that cost a fortune to build renovate keep open and that nobody uses

100% agree. As we talked about this evening, the SLO really helped my child when school admin said "it happened outside of school hours, we can't help". The SLO connected me w/ the other parent over a vandalism issue, we received an apology & acknowledgement. all we needed.
SLOs are prevention. Theyโre also mentors, connectors, early intervention.
The BCโs Human Rights Commissioner agrees the changes we made are working: โReally glad to see real changes that made a difference. Donโt be scared of evaluation.โ Public safety starts with our kids.

In what is BY FAR the best contemporary case of courtyard urbanism that I have seen, the Dutch are building fine-grained courtyard blocks (good ones!) on ARTIFICIAL ISLANDS off of Amsterdam.
But reclaiming land from the sea for courtyard blocks is not even the most interesting aspect of this. It's the development system, which uses a subdivision and parcel "passport" system to avoid megadevelopment and allow many builders and owners to participate in building out the courtyard blocks.
