It has only been two days but we already have 22 seconds more daylight that we had on the #WinterSolstice on Saturday. 💡 By Christmas Day it will be 84 seconds more. By the end of December it will be more than 8 minutes. By the end of January it will be almost 2 hours. ☀️
This is the Neolithic chambered cairn of Maeshowe in #Orkney which was built 5000 years ago. Every year on the #WinterSolstice (if the sky is clear) the setting sun shines down a perfectly aligned passageway and illuminates the inner chamber.💡

Please make a super special effort where you can to support independent businesses in South Wales that have been affected by Storm Bert. Some are closed as they have been flooded, other impacted by road closures. This is such an important time for indie businesses!! If you have a business that’s impacted, pop your website etc below!

I’m deeply saddened to hear of the passing of John Prescott, a dedicated public servant and key figure in the Labour movement. My thoughts are with his family and loved ones at this time.

Love the precision rendering of the world of 1514. The genius of Metsys.
Money Changer weighing coins to enact a very material just judgment, under God's (& his wife's) watchful eye. By Quentin Metsys of Antwerp, 1514. Today is his day.

Joy often requires effort to find, while sadness comes easily. Yet, pursuing joy is worthwhile—it's what we truly need as it illuminates the path through difficult times. From the Yukon, Canada, I am sharing good winter vibes and positivity with everyone! ❄️

Depressing. Median income of authors now down to £7K a year.
I know a lot of novelists who are considering giving up because they can’t make a living from writing. These are authors who have had great reviews. Who’ve won prizes. ‘It was a deflating experience’: the novelists who nearly gave up | The Guardian theguardian.com/books/2024/o…
