Last week, we had the honor of co-hosting the 11th Conference of the Society for the Study of Economic Inequality (@ecineq) along with @IIEPGW. The 2nd and 3rd day of the conference were remarkably engaging. On the second day, in addition to the many insightful sessions and ECINEQ’s General Assembly, a highlight was Garance Genicot (@GGenicot) keynote on “The Great Gatsby Curve”. An excellent reflection on upward mobility, persistence and inequality that I had the honor to chair. The 3rd day was elevated by @noralustig's presidential lecture on “Including the Rich in Income Inequality Measures”, chaired by James Foster. A thought-provoking look where a very insightful assessment of approaches were discussed. Grateful for the rich exchange of ideas and the global community of researchers pushing the boundaries of inequality analysis. #ECINEQ2025

Last Friday, we wrapped up a very inspiring 11th ECINEQ Conference in Washington, DC, a week that began with our pre-conference “Sharing Prosperity Day,” followed by three full days of @ecineq panels, keynotes, and discussions on economic inequality. It was an honor to co-host this edition on behalf of the @WorldBank, and a pleasure to share this responsibility with George Washington University (@IIEPGW) and the ECINEQ community. Deep appreciation to all the speakers and presenters — across keynotes, panels, and parallel sessions — whose contributions sparked thoughtful discussions and reflection throughout the week. And a very special thank you to the incredible teams behind the scenes. On the World Bank side, colleagues from the Poverty Global Department under the Prosperity Vertical and from the Development Economics Vice Presidency led this effort with professionalism and energy, helping ensure everything ran smoothly, from logistical coordination and session management to keynote delivery, hospitality, and side events. This group photo doesn’t capture everyone, but it shows some of the amazing people behind four packed days of programming. It takes coordination, commitment, and collaboration to bring a conference like this to life, and I’m truly proud of what we accomplished together. You can watch the @DAcemogluMIT, @GGenicot, and @noralustig Keynotes Addresses replays in this link: worldbank.org/en/events/2025…

Yesterday was the first day of the 2025 @ecineq conference, hosted by @WorldBank and @GWtweets. @DAcemogluMIT talked about new technologies - their distributive implications crucially depend on whether they increase only the average product of labour or also its marginal product.
