In the last 5 years, measles outbreaks have hit over 100 countries, home to roughly three-quarters of the world’s children. But we know how to prevent it. Measles vaccines are safe and effective. Vaccinating every child protects all children and prevents the spread of disease.

It’s #WorldImmunizationWeek! This year's theme, "Immunisation for All is Humanly Possible," reminds us that reaching every child with life-saving vaccines is possible. Every minute, every day over the last decades, immunisation has saved lives. It is one of humanity's greatest achievements. Yet there’s more work to do.

Funding cuts limit our ability to vaccinate over 15M vulnerable children against measles in fragile and conflict-affected countries. Vaccines save lives. We can't lose ground in the fight against preventable diseases. #WorldImmunizationWeek👇 unicef.org/press-releases/in…

Africa imports over 90% of its medicines and 99% of its vaccines, limiting its ability to respond to health threats. To change this, @AfricaCDC has been advocating for local production of medical countermeasures through well structured, well coordinated Research & Development (R&D) governance and coordination systems. We are proposing a Continental Health R&D Coordination and Governance Framework to strengthen local innovation, collaboration, and medical manufacturing. With a structured network of African scientists, policymakers, and researchers, this initiative will drive research priorities, capacity building, ethical standards, and sustainable financing. The goal is clear—Africa-led solutions for Africa’s health challenges. Read more in our latest paper via @TheLancet: ow.ly/TWiO50Vlcrr #AfricaCDC #NewPublicHealthOrder

My trip to Haiti began at the K-Soleil health centre, where the struggle for survival is palpable. Doctors noted that without @UNICEF they would close. Children will die from malnutrition without continued support. Our work here is essential & requires immediate funding.

📢 BREAKING NEWS 📢 Today, the Honourable Ahmed Hussen, Minister of International Development announced $675 million for @Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance! 🎉 And boldly stated that "Canada remains firmly committed to investing in international assistance, because there’s clear evidence that it’s the right thing to do, and the smart thing to do, to build a healthier and more prosperous future for the next generation" The global fight for equitable access to lifesaving vaccines is one of the most important causes of our time and it is being threatened by the cuts to international assistance from the US and other actors. But Canada will not turn its back on the world. After months of our volunteer advocates and partners urging Canada to invest in global immunization, we are thrilled about this significant investment in a healthier, more prosperous world #ForOurFuture. It will help vaccinate 500 million children and prevent up to 9 million deaths by 2030 as well as support equitable access to healthcare for marginalized communities and prevent future infectious disease outbreaks. This investment from Canada also addresses gender equity challenges. For instance, Gavi will protect millions of girls from human papillomavirus (HPV), a leading cause of cervical cancer – a cancer that could be ELIMINATED through access to immunization. #InternationalWomensDay We are proud that Canada has stepped up as a global leader with this important contribution. Thank you to Prime Minister @JustinTrudeau, Minister @HonAhmedHussen, and everyone who helped make this happen!
