It's so much nicer to referee papers which have public #opensource software with #replicability, #reproducibility, #reusability #RRR!

I have now started to transition to the other app. I will not post science here. Interested in the science of me and my coworkers? Same username. This platform has been used for manipulation of public opinion by the owner. Fingers crossed 🀞 interesting folks will transition too

I encourage everyone here to look for other platforms. Several of the people I appreciate have already moved.

The ILAS community mourns the loss of one of its leaders, Professor Nick Higham, from the University of Manchester. He passed away on January 20, 2024 at the age of 62, after a battle with cancer. He will be sorely missed.

It's always a pleasure to improve the learning experience for students. This edition of the matrix computations course involved a lot of new videos. Learn about matrix sign computation in 5 minutes. πŸ€“ youtu.be/mJJwUClr8lE?si=Ox_J…

A lot of attention how chatgpt will disrupt teaching. On the contrary, teaching has a lot to gain from this technique.

Beware of using #chatGPT for math. Here is its answer to the exam question in my course in numerical linear algebra. Looks very convincing but most of it is completely wrong. And also self-contradictory.

What has been erased in the formula for Krylov approximation of the matrix function? Ping @guettel. The students wanted space to write DAEs when we recorded it πŸ˜‚.

Machine Learning and #linearalgebra has so much to gain from each other. Terminology is the first bottleneck. Unit vectors and one-hot vectors are the same thing. πŸ™ˆ

The new 3d-force-graph data exploration framework by @vastur et al is just awesome. Ever wanted to travel in the deep space consisting of MNIST 3's and 8's? #datascience

Years later SIAM has added a bibtex button. Appreciated!
Why are there no master bibtex file floating around? How difficult would it be for a journal to create a bib-tex with all their bibliographic data?
