SOCIAL MEDIA WARS UPDATE: For me specifically, the social media platform “wars” are pretty much over, in that I’ve figured out my general intentions. Mastodon had a good start and a good audience but stopped growing a while ago. I don’t find Threads that useable, and there are other issues too. I’ll still post on those two, but they won’t be my focus. LinkedIn has gotten surprisingly good with a specific audience, and I’ll do more there. But it’s clear to me that the official alternative to Twitter/X and likely successor is Blu#sky. Whatever you decide to do here (I’m still staying for the moment and continuing to observe/assess, but my activity level and approach will be changing), I hope to see you at Blu#sky too. I still see every single day how incredibly important social media is to the struggle for better cities and city-building. Don’t give up on it. Make it work for you.

She's right on the lane width part! Narrower lanes make us feel less safe when we're driving, so we respond by driving more slowly, which results in everyone being safer.

Nobody likes other people's cars. So in response we keep building infrastructure that ensures we will get more other people's cars. Then we blame housing for all the other people's cars.
I have been door knocking this season asking about needs in the community. The single most hated thing is other people’s cars: the speeding, the noise, the parking, the traffic, the visual clutter. Stop confusing a handful of noisy cranks for majority opinion. People want places.

It's not every day a legend like @dongho_chang shows up at your city hall but when he does you better believe @ramialkabra and I are going to get a selfie

Love this. There's no way to get ourselves out of a supply problem without more supply.

When the Fed cuts interest rates (& it should) it will NOT solve the housing crisis. It will thankfully make it easier for more people to buy but that will just push up demand for a limited supply. There’s only 1 solution: build way more homes of all kinds for all our neighbors!

Elect housing champions at all levels of government 👏👏👏👏
"There’s a serious housing shortage. It’s too difficult to build, & it’s driving prices up. We will take down barriers & cut red tape including at the state & local levels. We will end America's housing shortage by building 3,000,000 new homes." Kamala just went full YIMBY!

Congrats Spokane! This is a win for climate, traffic, housing, air quality, and safety. It's been fun to see you lead. Now it's on the rest of us to catch up.
Thank you @Spokane_Council for removing parking minimum regulations! This will stimulate housing supply & small business development. I look forward to signing this ordinance.

They're going to be the only show in town for a lot of people in Washington if the merger goes through.
Kroger is rolling out electronic shelf labels, which can change prices instantly and bring surge pricing to America's second largest supermarket. They're also planning to use cameras with facial recognition to determine customers' gender and age and make personalized offers.

The only people super focused on the fertility rate are either academics or weirdos.
Ramaswamy: JD Vance is taking on issues like America's fertility rate. That's something that's working for him Host: You think that's working for him? The childless cat ladies? Ramaswamy: Uh... w-well...

This is now a Spokane Stan account
🚨 UPDATE: 🚨 @Spokane_Council has just voted 6-1 to amend the legislation to make parking optional for all uses CITYWIDE. This ordinance will go to Council for first reading July 22 (next week!) and final consideration August 12. Thank you to @ZackZappone for leading on this!

And we didn't have to spend $7500 of taxpayer dollars on each one.
After Tesla's Model Y and 3, the third best-selling electric vehicle in the United States is... This e-bike? electrek.co/2024/06/05/after… Lectric's $999 XP 3.0 seems to have handily beat the next best selling electric car (either Ford's Mach-E this year or Chevy's Bolt last year).
