Chris Chamberlain of @CalStateEastBay starts the conversation about the remote-work era we face post-COVID-19. University staff reacted in a number of ways, which resulted in losing 1/3 of the staff. The remaining needed to learn how to work remotely in an efficiently. #IAFOR

By viewing work from the employees lens, keeping an open mind, focusing on the “why”, compromising, and providing constant communication, they were able to create a different work culture. A culture based on effective conversations, trust, and relationships.

In terms of my own classroom, I want to ensure my students and the relationships I have with them are built on the four pillars of trust discussed today. Care, sincerity, reliability, and competence. Students, like the staff at this school, should feel heard and valued. @Elon_Ed

Another session with Dr. Katie Baker and Dr. Dani Lane! Their research examines the experiences of dual-major teacher candidates regarding the edTPA assessment, which is a performance based assessment completed by seniors during their student-teaching semester. #IAFOR

The assessment “disrupted their authentic learning process” limiting their ability to build their classroom relationships with too much focus on the technicalities and formatting. Makes you ponder other standardized assessments as well, whether their benefits outweigh the stress.

While the assessment has drawbacks, both researchers and candidates agreed that there’s no clear replacement for edTPA. However, there are steps universities can take to better guide candidates through the process by explaining the “why” and “how” as well as providing structure.

Dr. Katie Baker and Dr. Dani Lane dive into their project "Exploring Co-Teaching in Higher Education." They noticed their prospective teachers expected to co-teach in their placements, without the prior knowledge of what strategies were available to them in this format. #IAFOR

They examined multiple iterations of a senior seminar course. During the first iteration, they modeled co-teaching themselves (without introducing the models to the students). This experience guided their future steps, including intentional introductions of co-teaching models.

It is essential that prospective teachers have access to the opportunities that co-teaching provides, with the knowledge and instruction to participate in these models effectively. Amazing to hear about this topic from my former professors!! @Elon_Ed @ElonEdFellows @iafor #iafor

Dr. Felisha Herrera shares her work promoting diversity and increasing the representation of Latinx students in STEM fields. Their work centers on helping minoritized students create community-centered STEM identities, through grounding, engaging, and bridging communities.#IAFOR

In order to make the changes Dr. Herrera is working towards, we must redefine STEM culture to better support these students who are currently underrepresented and promote future generations to participate in STEM fields. #IAFOR

As educators, we can do this by considering our own values with a critical lens, building meaningful relationships with students and other validating agents, and developing collaborative efforts through interdisciplinary-based partnerships. Find their work @resiste_sdsu. #IAFOR

Too caught up in the moment to tweet yesterday afternoon!! Here are some takeaways from the brilliant panels of speakers. 1. The greatest textbook in the world is the universe! Using the land or ‘āina around us can can contextualize learning in new ways while giving back to it!

4. The game of education and teaching is constantly changing. “How they’ve learned in the past is not how students are learning today.” We need to continue making learning meaningful and relevant to the students even if that means changing how we do it.

5. By weaving together knowledge from the past and the present, we can better care for the places we call home and strengthen our relationships with these communities. Thank you to the Polynesian Voyaging Society, @uhmanoa and @NOAA for sharing your wisdom!! #iafor @iafor
