MIT quantum computing researcher Aram Harrow believes "interesting quantum computers" with thousands of qubits could arrive sooner than expected, not in 10-15 years as previously thought.
Harrow has spent 25 of his 46 years working in quantum computing.
He says these systems could enable powerful simulations of molecules and materials, while potentially breaking today's widely used encryption methods.

Scientific progress should not be a moat.

i made this public commitment and i want to just give an update.
goal: bring meritocracy to everyone
over few months, we broke down to one thing: individual agency;
how can we accelerate individual agency?
the freedom to express and participate in every opportunities. we tried a bunch of things but two succeeded.
- darkbloom: anyone can be a mini data center with privacy and participate in this booming economy; 1k machines so far.
- ecdsa(.)fail: open autoresearch network that beat google’s classified quantum circuit by 40%;
we have proven our thesis and continuously building these two products into wider markets and bringing on customers.
more to come. we are hitting accelerator much faster now.

hard call: i’m not going to college next year
many on this platform have been invested in when i will go to college (or if i’ll dropout). so felt like sharing this update
i’m in love with what i do and i owe it to the system that let me start young
early this year, i was confused with what is my objective. i was wondering why am i in this industry.
and while listening to this talk, i heard @sreeramkannan say this to @alive_ : “a 13 yo kid from India was able to get $7million in his app - it’s because blockchains are unstoppable verifiable computers. they didn’t have to trust this kid, they just had to make sure the blockchain is running correctly”
this phrase gave me deep memory flashbacks of everything and where i come from. that’s also the second where i understood why sreeram says our 30yr goal is to build humanity’s coordination engine
more trust = more flexible coordination
more trust = more innovation
but mainly, i can’t take a break until i bring meritocracy to everyone
i wanna walk out proudly and say: “i made the system better”
there is nothing holding me back
i like to keep multiple reminders around me and this video is one of them

Given Anthropic's demonstration of hubris with the release of Fable, I shared some thoughts yesterday with the rest of @eigenlabs on why our mission matters in this moment.
These are dark winds. What Anthropic showed is they are increasingly willing to pull up the ladder after benefiting by collecting data from open internet, decades of shared open science, and open-source software such as PyTorch. The danger is not only closed AI. It is closed science: a world where the machinery of discovery is controlled by a narrow set of institutions, and everyone else operates under their permission structure.
@eigenlabs exists to push in the opposite direction. Our mission is to build coordination tools that preserve and expand individual agency in a post-AGI world. That mission matters more now than ever. If closed labs centralize intelligence, open networks must decentralize agency.

it is the first publicly available model that i am explicitly not allowed to use for my work, because anthropic holds the view that the work i do to facilitate open model research is harmful. capability and alignment research are coupled. anthropic wants to be the only lab.
