Linked is the first part of a project called Death of a Glacier, which seeks to engage with the global decline of glaciers through the lenses of both art and science.  #climatechange #artandscience #geoscience #classicalmusic #iceland #UW whisperingrivermedia.com/dea…

Thanks, @RickLindroth for passing this my way. Glad to see @NSF moving in the right direction. Based on thousands of years of experience, this land’s original inhabitants have tremendous wisdom and knowledge to offer. It’s outrageous for western science to think otherwise.

My upcoming documentary, What’s in a Name, explores these themes within the science of paleontology. It tells the story of remarkable new discoveries by @PaleoBadger and his team and their partnerships with the #EasternShoshone and #NorthernArapahoe tribes. #WINDdocumentary

Update 🧵(big news in #2!)… Since my last tweet (May), I’ve been to 🇮🇸 to film #DeathofaGlacier (more on that #collab to come), visited with family in 🇭🇷 and 🇦🇹, rafted the green river as a retirement celebration for my PhD advisor, moved across the country and adopted 2 cats…

So if you want to learn more about how I used #detritalzircons, some gold old thin-sections, and paleocurrent data to assess watershed heterogeneity in present-day #Wyoming during the early Eocene, give it a read!

Finally, if you’ve made it this far, thanks. Here’s a teaser for Andy Jones and my #DeathofaGlacier project as a reward for caring:

Fascinating thread 😮

Why is Africa the way it is? Part 2 Today, a story about religions, bugs, mountains, deserts, trade, wars, slaves & more Here's a challenge. Look at this map and make a guess: what do the red/green/yellow colors represent?

I take issue with “boiling oceans”. That’s certainly exaggerated, but this thread, and certainly this event, need a global audience. To prioritize economic growth over the sharing of knowledge, let alone human welfare, absurd to say the least. Also love the LoTRs analogy.
As floods & fires rise, oceans boil & ice melts, and "safe" temperatures are breached, something momentous just happened in the heart of the EU. No one has heard about it: journalists were present, but their editors refused to publish 🤯. 🧵, please RT. #BeyondGrowth2023 1/

In addition to my geological research and my independent film projects, I study how film (and art writ large) can be used to enhance introductory geoscience curricula. #art #science #education

There’s nothing like a window seat on a flight over the American west to 1) make me appreciate being a geologist and 2) get me excited to move back out west at the end of the summer.

A short 🧵 of gratitude: Last week I was honored with the Distinguished Graduate Student of the Year award—an award given to one student each year in the Geoscience department at @UWMadison.

I wholeheartedly believe that these awards are reflections of the fact that I’ve been allowed, even advised, to pursue paths of self-discovery both within and outside of my geological research.

Both awards are as much (if not more) reflections on the character and quality of Dr. Alan Carroll and Dr. Steve Meyers as they are on anything I’ve done to deserve the accolades. My sincerest gratitude to them both 🙏🏼.

I spent the better part of a 5 hour drive talking with a friend yesterday and after I missed or didn’t understand what felt like 100 cultural references, he said, “Ethan, when you finish your PhD, there’s a whole wide world waiting out there for you”. #livingunderarock #phdlife
