[ON AIR] The number of people displaced by conflict and persecution worldwide declined in 2025 for the first time in a decade, according to the latest the UN Refugee Agency, UNHCR Global Trends Report. While millions of refugees and internally displaced people were able to return home last year, the UN warns that many continue to face insecurity, damaged infrastructure and limited access to basic services. The report also highlights the growing humanitarian challenges facing children and families affected by displacement. To unpack these findings and their implications, @Lulu_Gaboo is joined by Eujin Byun, UNHCR Global Spokesperson. #AfricaUpdate #UNHCR #Refugees #Insecurity

The drama of migration must serve as an appeal to the conscience of the nations of origin of the migrants, which must establish conditions for peace, justice and development. It is also an appeal to the conscience of the transit nations, which are called to protect the vulnerable and not leave them in the hands of criminal networks. It is likewise an appeal to the conscience of Europe, which cannot claim to uphold human dignity while growing accustomed to the Mediterranean and the Atlantic becoming unmarked graves, as well as that of the international community, which is called to effective and persevering cooperation. #ApostolicJourney vatican.va/content/leo-xiv/e…

Every boat that arrives brings a question along with the migrants: what kind of world have we built, if so many brothers and sisters must risk death to seek life? Human dignity demands legal and safe pathways, rescue and assistance, real cooperation against traffickers, effective protection for victims, serious processes of reception and integration, and policies that allow every person to live with dignity in their own land. We cannot grow accustomed to counting the dead. Human dignity has no passport and does not lose its value when crossing a border. #ApostolicJourney

While there is a right to seek refuge when life is threatened, there is also the right not to have to migrate: the right to remain in one’s own home without hunger, war, persecution, violence, the land becoming uninhabitable, corruption stealing the bread from the poor, or weapons destroying the future of children. #ApostolicJourney

Refugee numbers declined in 2025, but the story behind the figures matters. Most refugees want to go home, but it must be voluntary, safe and with dignity. For every person forced to flee… Protection matters. Solutions matter.

In Akobo #SouthSudan I saw the devastation of a conflict displacing tens of thousands of people. Nyanhial fled to Ethiopia & returned to a home in ruins w/nothing left. She wants to rebuild, but like so many others, is in urgent need of support, services & most importantly peace.

Attacks against aid convoys when humanitarians are trying the impossible to reach people in desperate need in #Sudan are beyond unacceptable & a clear violation of international humanitarian law. Humanitarians and their services should never be a target. #NotATarget
UNHCR condemns the drone strike on a relief truck in North #Darfur, destroying shelter kits for 1,300 families in Tawila. These attacks further devastate those in desperate need. Attacks on aid must stop. We need safe passage. #NotATarget Press release⬇️ unhcr.org/africa/news/press-…
