I have explained it many times but I’ll do it briefly once more:
The foreign fighters in Syria already had the suspicion that they will be purged by the Syrian Government under Jolani - many were so fiercely loyal to Jolani that they rejected to fully believe in that assumption.
With the assault on the French Fighting units, this is the evidence for the foreign fighters in Syria that they will be purged one by one - (!) wether this is true or not is actually not relevant as the foreign fighters are now convinced that they will be purged (!)
The foreign fighters belonged by majority to Hayat Tahrir al Sham - there they were the core force of HTS - best equipped, best trained and most dedicated.
Jolani used the foreign fighters to subdue Syrian-Arab rivals and rival factions within HTS - now they are being discarded.
These highly trained units mostly served as assault/shock units for HTS and in Special Forces tasks for critical tasks.
The first Uzbek unit joining the war is a strong indication that this war is spiralling out of control ≈10 hours after the operation was launched - naturally more and more units will join and it’s likely that Arab units who believe in global jihad (basically the Qaida & ISIS formations) will be inclined towards joining the possible uprising against Jolani.
For the STG, they need to end the operation as quickly as possible without causing material damage and casualties.
A lot of units who may be inclined to join the war (& later uprising) against the STG will decide on whether or not to join the war by how this operation commences.
First, the French foreign fighters resisted for over 10 hours, if they continue to resist it will break the notion that the STG is the militarily superior formation but it will also give time to other units to hold meetings and prepare to join the uprising.
For the STG its difficult - they are aware that time is working against them, but storming the camp isn’t an option either as the French foreign fighters have all of their family members in this camp and should these *civilians* be killed or wounded, it will break the notion that Jolani has launched this attack to liberate the families from the oppression by the French foreign fighters commander (Omar Omsen and his brother; who indeed have a torture prison in this camp where they do horrible things).
The STG has once again cornered itself with this operation and it remains to be seen how it plays out - one thing is for sure though, the foreign fighters in Syria will position themselves hostile to the STG from now on.
Major update:
A Foreign Fighters unit made up of Uzbek fighters has joined the operation in favour of the French Foreign Fighters that are currently engaged in clashes with the Syrian Government under Jolani.
They have vowed to break the siege on the French foreign fighters and call upon all Islamic military units to join them.
