Bernie Sanders claims seizing half of the AI stock would bring "trillions of dollars" in new govt revenues. I'm not sure how that would work. This equity would pay out as either:
A) Capital gains - but Sanders wants govt to keep the stock long-term rather than gradually sell. So then it would produce paper gains, not cash revenue.
B) Dividends - Most AI won't start paying dividends for many years once they are profitable and no longer ramping up huge investment costs. Even then, regular dividends won't be anywhere near "trillions."
So even setting aside that govt. control would surely reduce the innovation and outside investment these companies need, I'm not sure how this equity could possibly bring "trillions" or even game-changing revenues to finance all the new spending.
