I love life. I thank God I never succeeded in killing myself because I had NO IDEA how much better life would get. Had no clue I might someday have a beautiful wife and a happy baby bumbling around with me here in the North Country... Never kill yourselves, folks.

On this day in 1775, George Washington took command of the Continental Army. All he wanted his whole life was a British officer's commission. The Empire's inability to recognize and reward merit would become the most disastrous military personnel decision in human history.

Hell yeah
๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ The 50 star American flag flying today was designed in 1958 by 17 year old Robert G. Heft as a high school class project. He got a B-minus on it. The teacher claimed the design "lacked originality" and jokingly remarked that if Heft didn't like the grade, he should get the flag accepted in Washington. Heft called his teacher's bluff. He sent his physical prototype to his congressman, Walter Moeller, who forwarded it to the design pool. Out of more than 1,500 submissions, President Eisenhower picked his design. His teacher later changed his grade to an A. Thank you, Robert! The flag is beautiful! ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ

Just a reminder: the proposed Global War on Terrorism Memorial is an avant garde Leftist art school wet dream that is actually an abomination that dishonors our GWOT veterans, dead and alive. If they actually build this monstrosity, expect me to to show up Tom Cruise "Born on the Fourth of July" style, sporting a beard, my "Iraq/Afghanistan Vet" hat and my old DCU top, loudly protesting. I've never been to a protest before, never did the "old veteran" bit, but this horrific monument to everything the Left did to us while we were fighting will drag my broken "not service connected" butt to DC so I can be heard. I'm pretty sure I'm not alone.

If Freddy's American adventure isn't made into a Hollywood movie, I'm going to be very disappointed.
This is all so insane. We found this when we got back to our room. And then someone even sent cupcakes to our room. I genuinely donโ€™t understand how it got to this point. Weโ€™re just normal World Cup tourists.๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ˜ญ

A final thought on the 251st birthday of the U.S. Army. Your ancestors fought entropy so you could be here reading this. That is the story of every American alive today. Some crossed oceans, survived wars, built homes, endured hardship, and carried burdens nobody remembers. Generation after generation fought the darkness long enough to hand a future to people they would never meet. You are the result. The Army has always understood this better than most institutions. A young Soldier standing watch tonight is connected to men who stood watch before him in Normandy, Vietnam, Afghanistan, and places now forgotten by history. Different uniforms and weapons. The same burden. That connection is the soul of the Army. The modern world struggles with this because it wants everything reduced to systems, processes, metrics, and charts. It can explain how an institution functions. It cannot explain why people sacrifice for it. The soul of the Army lives in that answer. And any nation foolish enough to lose it will eventually discover that process can manage an organization, but only spirit can sustain one.
251 years, one Army. Happy birthday @USArmy Every type of Soldier in our history from 1775-present is depicted below ๐Ÿ‘‡

A class act
The Story of Lila. George Washingtonโ€™s love for dogs carried over to the Revolutionary War. At the Battle of Germantown on October 4, 1777, fog blanketed the fighting troops, causing mass confusion and many accidental misfires. British General William Howeโ€™s pet fox terrier, Lila, was one of the many lost in the confusion. Disoriented, Lila followed Washington and the Continental Army home from the battle. After Washington identified Howe as Lilaโ€™s owner from her collar he felt it was his duty to return her, opposed to keeping her as a trophy of war. He delivered the dog back to Howe along with the following note, likely written by aide-de-camp, Alexander Hamilton, โ€œGeneral Washington's compliments to General Howe. He does himself the pleasure to return him a dog, which accidentally fell into his hands, and by the inscription on the Collar appears to belong to General Howe.โ€
