So, it's a Kasteel Rouge tonight to celebrate the safe arrival of our first grandchild! 🥳 oo, a bit unusual with that strong cherry flavour!

A link to my blog article about a lost ancient trade route through Yaxley, on the northeast Cambs fen edge. It's rapidly suffering attrition from development pushing down towards the fen. cchistarch.blogspot.com/2024…

We’ll have a selection of handling objects available - a quantity of Horningsea pot sherds and kiln furniture, and then a more varied assemblage of local pottery sherds including nene valley colour coat, Samian and black burnished wares.

Our speakers tomorrow night @McDonaldInst will be our own @TomMidgley4 and his @oatweet colleague Laura Mitchell. “The Roman pottery industries of Horningsea and Colchester”. We will of course be remembering the great man as we sit beneath his watchful gaze. 😔

The current .gov.uk flood risk map for the River Nene near Peterborough. No wonder the early Medieval Ermine St/Great North Road temporarily moved west onto the higher ground as the Bullock Road! cchistarch.blogspot.com/2022…

The list of his achievements seems endless, theoretical archaeology, television, speaking & writing, committee work, the text book, excavating, illegal antiquities trading, & on & on, he excelled in everything that inspired him, not least in occasionally admitting he was wrong

Very sad to hear of Colin Renfrew’s passing. He gave so much in his passions for archaeology, contemporary art, the ideals of academia, students in whom he saw promise, & more. Fortunately for the rest of us the Conservative Party failed to hold onto him. A brilliant mind RIP

One for the military 'X' hive. Dad served in the RASC during WWII, but sadly died in 1963. His awards incl the Defence & 1939/45 medals and 1939/45 & Italy stars. His medal card seems to show 5 awards with a '1' by the Africa star and '5.1' elsewhere. (One Star pending?)

I checked the card (online) of a good friend dad served with and he received the Africa star. A newspaper report from 1944 on dad's friend gave his itinerary as Africa/Sicily/Italy. Coincidentally, I obtained an Africa star years ago, in a collection of nik-naks from a junk shop!

The medal card gives dad's service number so might have a better chance of obtaining his service record.
