#HongKong has recorded over 40,000 invalid ballots – or 3.12 per cent of all votes cast in the geographical constituencies – during Sunday’s “patriots only” legislative elections, a new high since the 1997 Handover. hongkongfp.com/2025/12/08/ov… Urging blank/protest ballots is illegal. Casting one is not.
Over 3% invalid votes in Hong Kong’s ‘all patriots’ direct legislative polls – new high since Handover. In full: hongkongfp.com/2025/12/08/ov…

Indeed “Voter turnout % increased solely because total voting population fell” is probably not the winning message HK’s leaders think it is…
TO WESTERN MEDIA: don’t just report that the voter turnout rate in yesterday’s “patriots only” Hong Kong LegCo elections was “better” than that of 2021: 1. Fewer votes were cast yesterday than in 2021 so the higher turnout rate is a result of there being fewer registered voters since 2021; and 2. This turnout rate is still a lot lower than back when LegCo elections were semi-competitive.

Voters were handed a "thank you" card after casting their ballot in the "patriots only" election on Sunday. As of 1.30pm, 15.18 per cent of registered geographical constituency voters had cast a ballot. By this time in 2021, 14.39 per cent had turned out, but polls opened an hour later. More heros from the Tai Po fire. Catabay carried her employers child from the 23rd floor down the fire escape and didn't stop til she was safe. Verador carried her employer's 2 yr old child in one hand and supported the grandmother in another through the smoke to safety.

Today in #ChineseCanadian history, thousands of people in Vancouver gathered to protest against Asian immigration on Sept 7, 1907. They smashed windows & destroyed storefronts in Chinatown and Japantown; the violence continued for two days. Learn more: tinyurl.com/mwuufr66

When Tony Singh launched his grocery chain @Fruiticana, he knew he had to stock good mangoes. The ones mass produced for supermarkets wouldn't do. Indian ones were too expensive to import. Our story begins in Singh's 28°C mango room. My @TheTyee feature. thetyee.ca/Culture/2022/04/1…
