It seems like @BBCMoreOrLess and @MonkEmma would be a good match - if she’s looking for work and they’re looking for people. Providing context feels closely related to always asking «Is that a big number?» 😃
Last week the @Daily_Express ran with the following front page. So obviously I had to take a look! Is it true? How does it compare to other professions? Because anyone familiar with British RW media discourse knows they reserve a special venom for civil servants…🤷🏼‍♀️ 🧵 1/25

When someone compliments your choice of reading material - «Sounding man - essays on the oceans, the depths and curiosity» - for a short flight in Sweden and then adds: «I designed the cover» 😃 …and then gives me a heads-up that the author has a new book coming out next week.

So, if you’re late returning from a day on shore, would your cruise ship allow you to board again in a later port, @emmacruises? Assuming you can get yourself there. On a fairly standard Caribbean or Mediterranean cruise.

I (sort of and vaguely) knew that Aden was part of the British Indian Empire, but not that it extended to the Emirates - then regarded as princely states in/by The Raj. This is fascinating stuff and «Shattered Lands» by @SamDalrymple123 is definitely going on my reading list.
Replying to @DalrympleWill
Although largely forgotten today, in the early 20th Century, nearly a third of the Arabian Peninsula was ruled as part of the British Indian Empire. From Aden to Kuwait, a crescent of Arabian protectorates was governed from Delhi, overseen by the Indian Political Service, policed by Indian troops, and answerable to the Viceroy of India. Under the Interpretation Act of 1889, these protectorates had all legally been considered part of India.

Sitting down for my first coffee in the small Serbian town Subotica, a place I can say I would never have travelled to if not for this recommendation from @SoloTravelStory. First impressions are really good - even if they may have forgotten my cake order solotravelstory.com/subotica…

Also, a shout out to @RJonTourUK for pointing me in the direction of my previous stop, Pécs in Hungary. Another place I probably wouldn’t have visited if not for the friendly and informative people of #TravelTwitter :-)

Maritime history gold. And a bloody nice museum, as well ⚓️
On the anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic, we thought we'd answer a question that's often asked, "If they raised the Mary Rose, why not raise the Titanic?" Allow our scaled diagram to explain...

Science literacy is collapsing. And with it, the foundations of civilization. People fear vaccines more than viruses. So diseases we once defeated are coming back. They fear GMOs more than hunger. So we reject tools that could feed millions. They fear nuclear more than climate collapse. So we burn more coal. They trust influencers over scientists. So truth becomes a matter of opinion. This isn’t just ignorance. It’s a threat. You can’t solve 21st-century problems with 15th-century thinking. Science isn’t a luxury. It’s survival. Teach it. Defend it. Demand it.

Even though it was never very active and was plagued by spam inserts for years before I managed to crash it during an update this week, it still felt a bit sad to pull the plug on my #travelblog. I managed to salvage the content, but it’s probably not worth «recycling» 🌏 🥾 💻

Oslo’s largest(?) bookshop has moved its #travel guide section and sorted it by publisher, then title, rather than geography. So for Tokyo, look under T for Tokyo and J for Japan under each publisher. And Germany is found under G rather than T (for the Norwegian name Tyskland) 🌍

🎼🎵 When I was a lad I ate four dozen eggs every morning to help me get large. And now that I'm grown, I eat five dozen eggs, so I'm roughly the size of a barge. 🎵

What happened to Villa Vie Odessey after last year’s sea trials off Belfast? Interest seems to have dropped off, which makes me think there’s been some level of success. Does anyone know? #CruiseTwitter? Do you have any inside info on this, @emmacruises?

I knew there was something familiar with that #Aperol shot @HHLifestyleTrav posted recently. I didn’t even google map or image search it, simply walked back to the same spot where I had lunch in September, and wouldn’t you know 😃 Cheers 🥂

So, just got an email to call an airline about a recent flight booking. Payment hadn’t gone through and they couldn’t take it over phone. Instead they offered to rebook at 16x the fare! While talking to them, I found it at 10% over original fare. Fine - but still a bit annoying.

For generations of young Scandinavians setting out to explore Europe, Hamburg is not just a place you pass through, I’d say it’s a rite of passage. And if you want to go beyond the train station, @SoloTravelStory knows where to get the best coffee ☕️ solotravelstory.com/hamburg-…
