This applies up and down the org chart. Intern checking email Sunday night? Not getting promoted faster. Manager on Slack at midnight? Not seen as more committed. CEO who hasn't taken a real vacation in 2 years? Not running a stronger company. Just a more fragile one.

Long walks with no phone. Hikes with no signal. Eventually I bought a float center because an hour in a tank with zero input is the most effective reset I've found. Doomscrolling and "just one more episode" were never going to fix what was broken.

I learned this the long way. Rough childhood, two divorces by 30, a drinking problem I had to put down. Spent the next 15 years figuring out what actually helps. Pattern across all of it: subtraction, not addition.
