My Sister-In-Law made redundant from her “back office” role, that involves booking and rescheduling patient appointments, is training nurses on how to do that job in her last few weeks. This is National. Using limited frontline services to do the “back office” admin. #nzpol

Indeed, the University of Sankore in Timbuktu, Mali; is one of the oldest universities in the world, dating back to around 988 AD. It was a renowned center of learning, attracting scholars from across the Islamic world and beyond. The university's curriculum was remarkably advanced for its time, covering subjects like: 1. Astronomy 2. Geography 3. Medicine 4. Mathematics 5. Science 6. History (unusual for the Islamic world at that time) The university's libraries were filled with precious manuscripts written in African languages, such as Hausa, in the Ajami script (a form of Arabic script). Mansa Musa, the richest man in recorded history, is believed to have built or supported the university. His legendary wealth and pilgrimage to Mecca in 1324 AD helped establish Timbuktu as a major center of trade and learning. Unfortunately, with the arrival of European and Asian colonizers, the Malians had to hide their precious manuscripts to protect them from destruction or theft. Fortunately, many of these manuscripts have been rediscovered, with around 700,000 scripts found, including advanced mathematical texts. This rich history highlights the significance of African contributions to human knowledge and understanding. It's essential to preserve and celebrate this heritage for future generations... #archaeohistories

Fair Go first aired 2 days after I was born. Today it was confirmed that it will be coming to an end. I'm feeling for the team. It is a show that has spent years helping the little guy have a voice to set things right when wrongs have been done.
Fair Go 💔 Heartbreaking news which was delivered two days after the 47th anniversary of the consumer show’s first episode in 1977.

Heartbreaking. Nicole, a woman in New Zealand, is incurably suffering and, as such, cannot access assisted dying. Her story, tragically common, demonstrates why compassionate laws must include both the incurably suffering and the terminally ill. nzherald.co.nz/nz/nz-euthana…

It bums me out to see how often this sentiment is repeated: that there's no diff in quality or labor standards between high- and low-end clothes, particularly fast fashion. IMO, this is just ppl trying to make themselves feel better about participating in this exploitative system

France is not fucking around New legislation demands all *existing* carparks with 80 or more spaces must install a solar roof (in 3-5 years) This could generate up to 11 gigawatts, which is the equivalent of 10 nuclear reactors electrek.co/2022/11/08/franc…

This engraving is done *after* the black anodizing process, when the part is already at a "cosmetic finish" stage, so we don't use any coolant in this process. The nozzle that deploys at about 0:35 in the first video is compressed air, used to blow away the dust that we make.
