#WhyDisabledPeopleDropOut A thread. As a former faculty member, I have heard several colleagues complain about accommodations as being frivolous. If they are willing to say these things in front of a very visibly disabled colleague, what do they say behind closed doors? 1/

Disappointed #WhatADay hasn’t covered the death of #JudyHeumann. There’s not generally great disability coverage by actually disabled folks on @CrookedMedia, which has always bugged me, but the death of a major civil rights leader?

“To avoid the marriage penalties faced by couples in which one partner is disabled, the union was ceremonial rather than legal. This shielded Ms. Torasso from future financial responsibility and allowed Mr. Carbone to retain the disability benefits he needed to afford care.”

My friend who is a Chief Diversity officer shared that there have been a growing number of complaints by white faculty and staff that the jobs were being reserved for people of color and that their voices were being silenced. They decided to look at the numbers.

I don't have a 280 character quip about why you should vote. What I do have--what so many of us have--is a very real fear of the present & a dire sense of urgency to change the future. Election results are a necessary step to making that happen. So please, VOTE. #CripTheVote

We can blame Trump and Woodward all we want, but after a certain point, we’re going to have to come to terms with the fact you all saw disabled and elderly people as disposable and didn’t think it reasonable to hold your politicians and selves to account.

Still processing: we live in a state where incarcerated people, many houseless, are paid slave wages to risk lives defending others' homes, then banned from fire work bc of a record. Then their pandemic based release is considered a "cause" of destruction. cnn.com/2020/08/24/us/califo…

A 17 year old white supremacist domestic terrorist drove across state lines, armed with an AR 15. He shot and killed 2 people who had assembled to affirm the value, dignity, and worth of Black lives. Fix your damn headlines.
