Worrying about “scaling” when building a new web app is like worrying about how you’d invest a billion dollars when you’re broke.
Scalability doesn’t get you users. First have users, then worry about scalability. The order matters.
HOW TO START A NEW SIDE PROJECT
1. Have an idea
2. Buy the domain
3. Create a repo on @github
4. Realize now you actually have to do work
5. Sit on it for a while, just so you're fully prepared to go into this new endeavor
6. Maybe wait a little longer...
7. ...
I'm thinking about writing a new book on microservices where each page is delivered separately and there's no guidance on how to stick them all together.
Tweaked the default Redis configuration for upcoming 5.8 release. Basically identical functionality as before but easier to switch to Cluster without shifting a bunch of configuration around. 👍
I’m always so confused when some people say “Laravel makes you code the Laravel way”. No framework makes you code any certain way. Once you hit a controller or a route, the rest of the code is code you chose to write in any style you want using any components you want. ✌️
