Em from BC got to march with fellow wildland firefighters in their town’s pride parade! They said: “the culture is changing! 🏳️‍🌈💜” We think so, too. 🌈 Have you seen other examples of the culture in wildland fire changing to be more inclusive? 🫶

If you fly, we can’t! Drones near wildfires are dangerous and can shut down firefighting operations. When unauthorized drones are in the area, fire managers must ground all aircraft — including helicopters and airtankers needed to slow the fire’s spread. This puts firefighters, communities, and public lands at greater risk. Only authorized aircraft are allowed near wildfires. By keeping your drone grounded, you help wildland firefighters do their jobs safely and effectively. Protect those who protect Arizona’s public lands — don’t fly near wildfires. New Blog post: "In Alaska, there’s a regular joke among firefighters saying that rather than wasting money on doomed project fires, it would be cheaper for the government to contact threatened cabin owners as the fire approaches and offer to buy it." fusee.org/fusee/saving-priva…

Rep. Hoyle is hosting a Wildfire Telephone Town Hall on Monday, 6/8! 👉 Hoyle hasn't signed on to the Roadless Rule yet. This could be a great time to ask her about it, and ask her to stand alongside firefighters in supporting it! RSVP: forms.gle/yan31tiNuMo2SnLt7

Addressing climate change is how we fight high-intensity wildfire long term! “Oregon's 2026 winter season was one of the warmest on record dating back to the 1890s, and it produced the smallest amount of snow ever recorded compared to some records dating back to the 1940s.”

Thank you, Ventana Hotshots! ❤️‍🔥
California: The Santa Rosa Island Fire off the coast of California is now 18,378 acres and 97% contained. A ton of work has gone in to get to this point, but there is still a lot of work left. There will be extensive suppression repair work to do. Biologists, archeologists, and cultural specialists have made their way to the island to help with these operations. Thanks to the Ventana Hotshots for these incredible shots of operations on the fire.

Trump's unholy crusade against DEI is thwarting beneficial controlled burning that reduces risk to wildland firefighters and rural residents from extreme wildfires. Trump's anti-woke joke is pro-wildfire smoke. What next? Dousing Lady Liberty's torch? npr.org/2026/05/17/nx-s1-577…

Before taking the helm of the USWFS, Fennessy served as the chief of San Diego and Orange County’s fire departments. “He has a lot of trust amongst the crews,” Ingalsbee said. “The question is, ‘how much latitude does he have from the administration?’” boisestatepublicradio.org/po…
