Awesome initiative by the Environment Society of Oman to encourage public submissions of Arabian Sea humpback whale tail fluke pics. This population of <100 animals needs all the help it can get for the scientific community to keep track of its status. Get on board 🐋
Also thank you to NOAA North East Fisheries Science Center and the African Aquatic Conservation Fund, Europcar and Marina Bandar Al Rowdha for supporting the Marine Mammal Surveys.
In 2015, IFAW & @iwc_int carried out training for specialists at the Environmental Authority in Oman. Six years later, those lessons were put to practice to rescue an endangered humpback whale from entanglement in the port of Duqm. Congratulations to the @eso_oman_ team!
10 years ago the IWC Global Whale Entanglement Response Network was formed. This week it very likely saved an Endangered Arabian Sea humpback whale. Thanks for the support to everyone behind this initiative @iwc_int@ifawglobal@CCSPtown@portofduqm@eso_oman_@ea_oman
We would like to express our sincere thanks to the dedicated team of specialist who have been working with guidance from the IWC Global Whale Entanglement Network and to the Port of Duqm, ROP Coastguard and RAFO who have all supported this effort.
