Yes! That is the most comic bit. Bengali women from tier 2 cities and/or with non-posh English accents who have not travelled abroad but are mentally cosmopolitan are not even novel. So so common. For generations. My mother studied in a Bengali medium school, doesn’t have a ‘posh’ accent but her English is flawless and she had read widely about world literature, was familiar with world cinema, besides Bengali literature and cinema, long before she stepped out of India, in her late 40s.
