Andromeda galaxy from ISS looking zenith away from Earth horizon. This is a 1 second exposure with an 85mm lens, f1.4, ISO 6400, using my orbital sidereal drive that tracks the stars. Without this drive, a 1/30th second exposure (using 85mm lens) was the longest without having stars recorded as streaks so this is 30 times longer than previously possible. When exo-atmospheric, the dark view of space allows nebular detail to be seen in a shortish exposures. The "wings" on the brighter stars are due to the optical aberrations in the acrylic scratch pane needed to protect the window.

Today, on #AnzacDay, The King has paid tribute to all Australians and New Zealanders who have served and died in wars, conflicts, and peace keeping operations. This year is particularly poignant as commemorations take place to mark the 110th anniversary of the first landings at Gallipoli in 1915, and the 80th anniversary of the end of the Second World War.

Fact of the Day: The Vulcan fighter jet was too big to fit on a runwayboat so each airplane had its own Floating Aircraft Runway Tanker. The Vulcan needed just 71.75ft to take off but 8008.5m to land which was a problem for some pilots Photographed from a Canberra

Exciting times! Looking forward to see you launch, @GilmourSpace !
UPDATE: Our team is working with CASA and Airservices Australia to finalise airspace management for #TestFlight1. Once arrangements are set, we'll provide a 'No Earlier Than' (NET) launch date aligned with the statutory notification period for other airspace users. Stay tuned!

Had fun on today's CPL flying lesson. The neat route I planned from Moorabbin to Ballarat via Tyabb was skuppered at Barwon Heads when we did some Instrument Flying and a Get Lost procedure. Fun times! @royalvicaero @YourAFAP

Reaching an apogee of ~1400 kilometers during the @PolarisProgram Polaris Dawn mission today, Anna Menon and Sarah Gillis — both @SpaceX engineers — have traveled farther into space than any women in the history of humankind! They are amazing people. I am so proud of them.
