The least I can do is continue reporting the facts and documenting what happens in that courtroom. If I walk away because people threaten me, harass me, or attempt to intimidate me, then the lesson they learn is that those tactics work. The next journalist, the next witness, the next parent, or the next person seeking the truth will face the same treatment. What has happened in that courtroom over the last week has confirmed virtually everything I have reported for the past year. That is why some people are angry. That is why they want me gone. This isn’t about proving a point or being reckless. If I believed my presence there would leave my children without a mother, I would leave tomorrow. My responsibility to them comes first. But there is also a point where you have to decide whether threats and intimidation are going to dictate your actions. If they can silence people simply by making them afraid, then truth becomes whatever the loudest and most aggressive people say it is. I won’t allow that to happen. Not because I don’t care about my children, but because I do. I want them to grow up knowing that fear is not supposed to decide what is true and what is not. The liars are not going to have the final say in this.
