Hypothesized mechanism: lipo charge ICs stop charging below a certain cutoff voltage for safety reasons. Sitting in a discharged state for too long will cause them to gradually self-discharge below the cutoff voltage. Heating them up increases the voltage which might be …

Wondering what’s the deal with robot art? Definitely give this 5min video a watch! Peter gives an amazing review on the evolution of robot painting, highlighting some past robots, future ideas, and why you should care. Robots advancing art AND art advancing robotics.
Our ICRA@40 video shows some of the history of robot painting projects, the challenges these roboticists faced, and how they made core contributions to the field of Robotics. It doesn't have to be Robotics for Arts, it can be Arts for Robotics! youtu.be/M3D9cWNf7r0?si=AsOo…

Thanks so much @ChristaErnst1 ! We'll be finishing up the painting at Price Gilbert library tomorrow and Thursday - DM me for deets if you're interested in watching it paint! No sweat if you can't make it on short notice: mural & robot will be on display for a little while :)

Excited to share that our work on trajectory retiming was accepted to #ICRA2024! Traditional "time-optimal" trajectory retiming saturates control limits to minimize time (bang-bang), but this has negative consequences on closed-loop control stability and premature robot/tool wear

We replace the time-optimal objective with quadratic terms to balance multiple objectives such as control margin and speed. We leverage the special structure of the resulting QP to solve it in O(n) using factor graphs! with @fdellaert @sethahutchinson youtu.be/MSK--soXtRY?si=Ic_o…

This Christmas, for fun, I created an illustrated children's book using ChatGPT-4/DALL-E 3. It's not winning any awards but I've developed some opinions about strengths/weaknesses/workflows/outlook. 🧵

[4/5] Style & character consistency among pages was lacking. I didn't try very hard on this, and I know there's several recent works addressing this (especially re: video gen), but out-of-box, trying to get *multiple* characters accurate with consistent styling is hard.

Overall, a fun experience that is leaps and bounds better & faster than I could do myself, but still took ~7hrs for 20 pages, with most of the time being editing-out characters. Could probably re-do in ~3hrs knowing what I know now. Read more: gerry-chen.com/blog/2023-12-… :) [5?/5]
