@jovialjoy) , a Ghanaian-American computer scientist based at the MIT Media Lab, is known as โthe conscience of the AI revolutionโ? As a poet of code, activist, writer, speaker, and founder of the Algorithmic Justice League (AJL), her work has brought critical attention to the biases in AI. Her op-eds on facial recognition and surveillance technologies have driven legislative actions. Through the AJL, Joy fights for equitable and accountable AI. Her MIT thesis exposed racism and sexism in Microsoft, IBM, and Amazonโs algorithms. Joy has addressed the World Economic Forum and the United Nations, serves on the Global Tech Panel, and launched the Safe Face Pledge to prevent harmful uses of facial recognition technology. Recognized by Bloomberg 50, Tech Review 35 Under 35, BBC 100 Women, Forbes Top 50 Women in Tech, Forbes 30 Under 30, she is also a Rhodes Scholar and a Fulbright Fellow.
