We're about to create some buttons with gradient borders for a client website as well, so this was a nice thing to stumble across. It's always cool seeing the creative solutions others come up with when it comes to using CSS.
Gradient Border with Rounded Corners
just made this demo for someone, figured I'd share it here too:
1. transparent border to create the size and space
2. a border radius
3. a gradient filled to the border-box, a white layer on top in the padding-box
